I've Been Framed!!!
September 2, 2014
A little laugh...A little promise...A little hope... It has a nice ring to it, right?!?
When I first moved into my place, I wanted to decorate the walls without having to do too much labor or altering to the existing space. This wall stayed bare for awhile and then, I finally got it! A wall of frames! I could decide on a theme and change the photos whenever I want without changing the hardware.
The first story I decided on is this designer-based wall. I have ideas for a dance/movement story, black & white photos and architecture. It was important to me that the project be a frugal one and easy to create.
First, I conceptualized the wall then, I went to Ikea and found these amazing frames ($1.99-$9.99). Once I got home, I placed the frames on the floor to see if I liked the layout before adding them to the wall. After the frames were in place, I added the vinyl lettering that I got on sale from Michael's (I think I got ALL of them!). It was easy as 1, 2, 3.. 1. Position paper on the wall 2. Add water to the strip and press down 3. Peel away paper slowly! Voila!! Picture Perfect! Most of the photos are from magazines and, the Chanel C's and Versace I found online then, printed at Kinkos. Super easy & funtastic!
Although I love creating, I very rarely look at DIY videos on YouTube or scour the internet for hours searching for new ideas. I am totally old school and love flipping through magazines and books. I do have to say though that Google is an amazing tool that I do use now more than ever before.
Some of you Do It Yourselfer's may have seen videos or step-by-step direction on how to decorate your very own Sharpie art. Well, I tried a few techniques and found that it's best to have your finished product be just for show. The 10 minute baking technique washed right off. Argh...
I got this great soup mug from the dollar store, used letter stencils and a steady hand to design some fun & decorative, multi-use pieces. This clever Soup? Wine! mug is my fav. I have it on my counter and it serves as a home for my keys. I also have a mrm mug that sits on my desk filled with peppermints at the ready. Try it for yourself. Have fun and let your imagination run wild!
